In brief:

Google Gemini impressively shows how artificial intelligence could revolutionize our travel planning in the future. By using real-time data, personalized recommendations, and flexible adjustments, Gemini can provide a hassle-free and efficient travel experience. Even though there are legitimate concerns and criticism, we should focus on the opportunities and benefits that this technology offers. AI won't replace the human workforce, but complement and improve it, provided we're ready to embrace these changes. In a constantly changing world, it is important to be open to new technologies and to recognize and utilize their potential.

AI is the big trend. Which industries and tools are being revolutionized? Does the human being remain at the center? How are behaviours and the working world changing? What is the score of our jobs and what happens to who is the originator now? There is a sense of uncertainty and curiosity in society around the topic of AI.

In recent months and years, people have heard and read a lot of negative things about AI providers. Critics warn of privacy issues, ethical concerns, and the potential superiority of technology.

I personally use AI tools in various areas, both professionally and privately. In doing so, I rely primarily on technology from currently leading providers such as OpenAI, MidJourney and others. However, this blog post is not about me and my experiences, but about AI in general and Google Gemini in particular. Google's AI has been in the headlines in recent weeks because, according to reports and tests, technological progress is unable to keep up with the current benchmark.

Admittedly, I know Google Gemini Definitely less good than other tools like ChatGPT, and yet I think I could be a fan someday.

This blog is about the potential of AI in relation to the everyday needs of our society — specifically the area of travel. Google, as a central point of contact for searching for information, is developing exactly this potential with Gemini and I say with great certainty that many industries are being revolutionized. But where can the journey with AI really go?

Is Google Gemini revolutionizing the travel industry?

Imagine you're planning a trip to an exciting city or an idyllic location and all you have to do is tell Google Gemini what you want and need. Gemini will plan your trip or trip for you based on the known information.

An update that Google Gemini has announced for this summer. (Click here for the source).

The AI model will combine personal information, such as flights and hotel bookings, with publicly available details to create detailed travel plans within seconds. As with other Google updates, we expect the update to be launched in other regions first before we can test the new feature in Switzerland.

We are about to dive into a possible future and formulate various scenarios for how AI could accompany us on our trips and trips. Let's see that many AI tools are already very close to these features. Google advertises that Gemini will make the difference by integrating personal data. This means that based on the data and insights from your Drive or Inbox, the answers become more individual and specific. A game changer?

This is how we could soon travel with AI

Agile artificial intelligence (AI)

  • Weather and traffic: Google Gemini could continuously analyze weather and traffic data to provide you with real-time updates. Imagine you've planned a day full of outdoor activities, and Gemini gives you timely information about upcoming rainfall or thunderstorms and suggests alternative indoor activities or a postponement of your plans. This is based on the detailed predictive capabilities that are already built into Google Maps and other Google services.
  • Events and activities: During your trip, Gemini could provide you with up-to-date information about local events, festivals, or special offers at restaurants. This way, you won't miss any important or interesting events during your stay. This ability to integrate local data is made possible by linking to Google Search and Google Maps.

Personalized recommendations and route planning:

  • Interest-based suggestions: Based on your preferences and previous travel dates, Gemini could make tailored recommendations. Do you love art and culture? Gemini suggests the best museums and galleries you should visit. Are you a foodie? The tool finds the best restaurants and culinary experiences for you. According to reports and blog posts, Gemini can access data from Gmail to use your booking details to create personalized plans.
  • Optimized routes: By integrating Google Maps, Gemini could calculate the most efficient routes between your destinations and help you save time and stress. Whether you're traveling by foot, car, or public transportation, Gemini makes for a seamless travel experience.

Interactive and flexible planning:

  • Adaptability: Travel is often unpredictable, and plans can change. Google Gemini may be able to dynamically adjust your itinerary as soon as your plans or external circumstances change. This would allow you to spontaneously extend or shorten your trip, add new destinations or share activities without any additional effort. This flexibility is supported by real-time analysis of data from various Google services.
  • Notifications and reminders: Gemini could remind you of important details such as flight times, hotel check-ins, or reservations and suggest alternatives if needed. For example, it could help you book a later flight in case you miss your original flight.

Interactive trip planning:

  • Virtual travel assistants: Imagine being able to talk to a virtual travel assistant who not only answers your questions but also proactively makes suggestions and organizes your trip. This assistant could be controlled by voice commands and give you an interactive and intuitive planning experience. This functionality is powered by Google's advanced voice processing capabilities.
  • Integrate reviews and feedback: Google Gemini could analyze reviews and feedback from other travelers in real time, giving you the best options based on recent experiences and recommendations from other users. This would be made possible by using Google Reviews and other review platforms.

Google is not the first company that sees travel planning as extremely interesting for AI chatbots. Kayak, Airbnb, and others are investing in building their own AI-driven trip planners in the hope of luring customers away from search engines like Google.

Even though there are legitimate concerns and criticism, we should focus on the opportunities and benefits that this technology offers. AI won't replace the human workforce, but complement and improve it, provided we're ready to embrace these changes.

Finally, a short addition on how this blog post came about. When advising companies, it is crucial for me to also know the external influences in the markets. This is how I read up on industries and technologies individually. When it comes to interesting topics, I want to take the time to pass them on in a few sentences. It is quite possible that all readers of this article were already up to date, but in recent years I have had to realize that many industry colleagues and decision makers in companies were sometimes unaware of external influences in relevant markets.

Since this blog is one-way communication and I mostly read the feedback from analytical data such as impressions, average stay time and bounce rates, I would of course be happy if you would like to get in touch with me directly if you want to read more or less about specific topics.
